Why? How did you get here? What happened to this place? Is it you? Did you change? Why are you working there anyway?
Maybe the position started out as your dream job but over time things changed. It could have been because of team dynamics, a change in management, organization shifts to meet economy demands.
Maybe it is you:) No, I'm serious. Maybe what was important to you when you started working there has changed and now different things are important to you...
Whatever the reason for feeling like you don't belong at this company... it is okay. We can fix it!
Just knowing that it feels like a miss-match now leads us to looking at what that conflict means to you for a successful move forward. By exploring what is important to you in your work and evaluating what is missing from your current place and what you need to have in your next role you can then be more aware of how well your next move will fit you.
This feeling of being out of place at work or that the fit is no longer there, well, chances are that's your work values not being met or are in conflict.
Okay, great. How do we start?
Consider what would make you feel happy in your dream job. Characteristics like location, benefits, professional development opportunities and salary are important. But also think about the less tangible things like leadership style, organizational vision, workplace culture, employee development, collaboration between employees, openness to sharing information. Is innovation encouraged or is tradition the preferred way?
